James Maayan, soprano saxophone
James Maayan, soprano saxophone
Maayan James, soprano saxophone, was born in Israel. He is a performer, composer, and free improvisation artist. He graduated from the Brussels Royal Conservatory and the Conservatory of Lyon. He received the AICF scholarships. He composes music for solo saxophone, chamber music, rock and pop songs and more. His works were performed in Israel, Belgium, France and South Korea. He performs as a soloist and with chamber music ensembles and performs may premieres of contemporary works. He has founded several ensembles including ElGiza (a mix of klezmer Balkan and Arab music), MASH duo (with contrabassist Shaya Feldman), and PASHAQ (free improvisation group). He performs in several ensembles and was a soloist with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra and the Raanana Symphonette Orchestra. He has created three multidisciplinary shows: Experiment Whahad, Experiment Etnein and Merci d’etre venu.
