Mychatslav Weinberg’s Violin Concerto was written in 1959, Dmitri Shostakovich, who was Weinberg’s close friend, mentor and also the first to regard his work with appreciation.

This is what Shostakovich wrote in 1959 about the violin concerto that will be played in this program: “I was very impressed by the violin concerto by Mychaslav Weinberg. It is a tremendous work and I am considering my words carefully.”
