As the Chorus Master of the Israeli Opera, Berckovitch has prepared dozens of opera and concert productions and has led the preparation of the chorus for the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra’s concert series. In addition to his work with the Israeli Opera Chorus, he serves as an assistant conductor for numerous productions and conducts performances from the Israeli Opera’s repertoire; his conducting repertoire at the Israeli Opera includes Dido and Aeneas (Purcell) and L’elisir d’amore (Donizetti).
Berckovitch has conducted and collaborated with most of Israel’s leading orchestras, including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Sinfonietta Beer Sheva, and the Barrocade Israel Baroque Collective.
In the field of vocal music, he has served as the musical director and conductor of leading choirs and ensembles, including the Madrigal Singers Ensemble, and was the assistant conductor of the Tel Aviv Collegium Singers. He was also a co-founder of the Common Ground Voices international choir and served as one of its leaders.
Itay Berckovitch graduated in conducting from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music and in computer science from Tel Aviv University. He won the Gary Bertini Award, as well as a scholarship for young conductors under the aegis of the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sports and outstanding-student scholarships from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music.
