Jakob Schad (b. 2000), baritone, from the city of Landshut, Germany. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, where he was admitted to the pre-college programme in 2016, as well as two master’s degrees from the same institution: in concert singing, with distinction, and in Lied interpretation.

Since his stage debut in 2019, he has been affiliated with the Kammeroper München, with whom he has given over 100 performances across the German-speaking world, alongside regular work in children’s opera and educational projects. He has also appeared with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, at the Isarphilharmonie München, and at the Pierre Boulez Saal, Berlin.

His repertoire includes, alongside his concert work, the role of “The Protector” in George Benjamin’s Written on Skin, which he sang in March 2025 at the Prinzregententheater in Munich with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester under Peter Rundel, in a staging by Balázs Kovalik, drawing enthusiastic reviews. In concert and song repertoire, his engagements include the bass solos in Bach’s Passions and Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem, as well as Schubert’s Winterreise and Schwanengesang.

In 2025 he received a Wagner scholarship. He took third prize in the vocal category of the Mendelssohn Competition Berlin in 2024, the Youth Culture Award of his hometown Landshut in 2022, and the Trude Eipperle Rieger Prize in 2020. He attended the Liedakademie Heidelberg as a scholarship holder under Thomas Hampson, and has also worked with Gerold Huber, Annette Dasch, Hartmut Höll, Malcolm Martineau, Jörg Widmann, and Christian Gerhaher.
