Silvia Aymonino was born in Rome and began her career at the renowned Sartoria Tirelli, where, from 1985 to 1994, she worked alongside leading costume designers including Piero Tosi, Maurizio Millenotti, Paul Brown and Pier Luigi Pizzi.

She later specialised in opera, designing costumes for productions in Italy and internationally. Her opera credits include collaborations with directors such as Leo Muscato, Valentina Carrasco, Lorenzo Mariani, Jacopo Spirei, Damiano Michieletto, Luca Ronconi, Francesco Micheli and Massimo Popolizio. Her work has been presented at major opera houses, including Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Paris Opera and the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Recent productions include Lucrezia Borgia, Attila, La forza del destino and Otello.

In collaboration with Marco Balich, she has worked on major international events, including the Olympic Games ceremonies in Turin, London, Sochi and Rio, as well as the Beijing 2022 Flag Handover for Milano Cortina 2026.

In 2020, she received the Franco Abbiati Prize for Best Costumes for Agnese by Ferdinando Paër.
