Boris Kudlicka, set designer, was born in Poland. His numerous designs for opera include King Roger (Szymanowski), OtelloLa traviata (Verdi), Don Giovanni (Mozart), Yevgeni OneginIolanta (Tchaikovsky), Andrea Chenier (Giordano), TurandotLa boheme (Puccini), Boris Godunov (Mussorgsky), Duke Bluebeard’s Castle (Bartok), Aleko (Rachmaninoff), Die Fliegende HollanderTristan und Isolde (Wagner), Salome (R. Strauss), Powder Her Face (Ades), Die tote Stadt (Korngold), The Fiery Angel (Prokofiev) and others — all directed by Mariusz Trelinski. With many other directors he designed Death in VeniceThe Rape of Lucretia (Britten), Lear (Reimann), The Tempest (Ades), Simon Boccanegra (Verdi), Die Zauberflote (Mozart), Il viaggio a Reims (Rossini), Medea (Cherubini), L’etoile (Chabrier) and many other productions at the opera houses of Warsaw, Washington, Los Angeles, Vienna, Tokyo, Strasbourg, Dresden, San Francisco, Frankfurt, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Baden-Baden, Berlin, Brussels, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and others. He also designs for film, theatre, events and exhibition spaces. At the Israeli Opera he designed Orfeo ed Euridice (Gluck), Pique Dame (Tchaikovsky) and Madama Butterfly (Puccini).
