Mariusz Trelinski is one of today’s leading opera directors, renowned for cinematic productions that blend classical repertoire with contemporary visual storytelling. A graduate of the Łódź Film School and an award-winning film director, he made his operatic debut in 1996 with Elżbieta Sikora’s Heartsnatcher and achieved international recognition in 1999 with his acclaimed Madama Butterfly for the Polish National Opera. Since 2008, he has served as Artistic Director of the Polish National Opera.

His productions have appeared at many of the world’s foremost opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Monnaie, Teatro Real, Opéra de Lyon, and the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Recent highlights include Ariadne auf Naxos, Peter Grimes, Die Frau ohne Schatten, La forza del destino, and Cardillac. Noted for drawing inspiration from film, Treliński creates psychologically rich, visually striking interpretations. His achievements have earned numerous honours, including the International Opera Award for Best Director in 2018 and multiple major directing prizes in Poland.
