Steponas Zonys, baritone, graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre with studies in Vocal Performance in 2016 (class of Prof. Eduardas Kaniava). During his studies, he worked at Klaipėda State Musical Theatre (2014-2019), where he sang several major baritone roles. In 2016-2017 he participated in the LNOBT Opera Trainee Programme.

Since 2019 he has been an ensemble member of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre.

In 2021, he portrayed Valentin in Faust (Gounod) and Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier (R. Strauss), in D. Michieletto’s production at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. In 2019 he performed roles including Marcello in La bohème (Puccini), the title role in Don Giovanni (Mozart) at Klaipėda State Musical Theatre, Maximilian in Candide (Bernstein), and Mr. Astley in The Gambler (Prokofiev) in V. Barkhatov’s production at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Other performances include Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss, 2019), Ping in Turandot (Puccini, 2019) in R. Wilson’s production, and Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini, 2018) at Klaipėda State Musical Theatre. Earlier roles include Count Danilo in Die lustige Witwe (Lehár, 2017), Silvio in I Pagliacci (Leoncavallo, 2017), Robert in Iolanta (Tchaikovsky, 2017), Belcore in L’elisir d’amore (Donizetti, 2016), and Schaunard in La bohème (Puccini, 2016), all at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Steponas Zonys is a laureate of numerous national and Baltic competitions. In 2019 he received the Opera Hope of the Year award at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, and the Most Beloved Artist prize, chosen by audience vote, at Klaipėda State Musical Theatre. In 2021 and 2022 he received the Best Opera Singer of the Year award at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. He has been awarded Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė’s award for international merits to Lithuania.
