Hannah Rosa Oellinger and Manfred Rainer design costumes, stage sets and films. Their work has taken opera into trucks, onto pedal boats in swimming pools and into the Swiss Alps. They understand the stage as a playground and explore unconventional spatial and technical solutions. Sets are sunk into orchestra pits and revealed only via video (Proserpina, Neue Oper Wien, 2021); hand-drawn animations interact with performers (The Magic Flute, Opéra national de Lorraine, 2021); palm trees collapse and giant tortoises wander across the stage (Die Fledermaus, Opernhaus Zürich, 2025). In the current season, their work will be presented at the opera houses of Zürich, Geneva, Bayreuth and St. Gallen.
