Ulrich Niepel, lighting designer, was born in Germany. Since 1983 he has been working at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and from 1999 his is the Head of Lighting and Lighting Designer of the company. Since 1992 he has been working at the Bayreuth Festival where he was Head of Lighting and Lighting Designer between 2004 and 2010. He has designed lighting for opera productions in Berlin, Madrid, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Beijing, Bregenz, Seville, Bergen, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Montpellier and other opera houses.
