In the Brahms Concert we will pair concertos and symphonies by Johannes Brahms. Concerto 2 and symphonies 4 and.
Concerto No. 2 was written between 1881-1878 , and it reflects Brahms at the height of his power. The concerto is warm, broad and lyrical, and the piano is integrated with the ensemble and conducts a dialogue with it. The Fourth Symphony is darker, tragic and modest. This is Brahms’ most serious, explanatory and intellectual symphony, ending in E minor – a rare scale for Romantic symphonies.
