Armenian-German bass Vazgen Gazaryan studied at the Yerevan State Conservatory and began his career at Yerevan Opera Studio. As a member of Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, his roles included Mefistofeles in Faust, Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Fiesco in Simone Boccanegra, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte and Arkel in Pélleas und Mélisande. From 2007 to 2017, he was a member of Theater Erfurt, where his repertoire included the title role in Mefistofele (Boito), Mefistofele in Faust (Gounod), Leporello and Commendatore in Don Giovanni.
He has performed at The Metropolitan Opera, Teatro Petruzzelli Bari, Opéra National de Montpellier, Opéra de Lille, Savonlinna Opera Festival, Opera North, Teatro Carlo Felice Genova, Barbican Hall London, Komische Oper Berlin, Enescu Festival Bucharest and Teatro Municipal de Santiago Chile.
His roles have included Il Grande Inquisitore in Don Carlo, Zaccaria in Nabucco, Padre Guardiano in La Forza del Destino, Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Daland in Der fliegende Holländer and the title role in Don Pasquale.
