Bella Italia – In 1824, the French writer Stendhal published a letter of admiration for the Italian composer Gioacchino Rossini: “For twelve years, no composer’s name has come up in salon conversations – from Moscow to Naples, from Paris to Calcutta – more than Rossini, and he is only 32 years old.” Two of his famous overtures will be played at this concert, and with a warm embrace the compositions of a German composer with Jewish roots – Felix Mendelssohn, whose travels in the Land of the Boot inspired vibrant works such as the Italian Symphony.
