Marcelo Marques is a costume designer, set designer and theater director celebrating 46 years of his career with more than 290 theatrical productions, working with directors such as Bibi Ferreira, Jorge Takla, Charles Moeller, André Heller Lopes, Sergio Britto and Marco André Nunes. He created the costumes for Opus Brasil at the National Sing And Dance Ensemble (Peking Opera). His international career, which began in 1983 at Tel Aviv University, includes operas at Teatro Solis in Montevideo and Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon. In Brazil he has worked at the Amazonas Opera Festival, Palácio das Artes, Teatro da Paz in Belém, and the Municipal Theaters of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In 2017, he directed and created sets and costumes for La Voix Humaine (Poulenc), and in 2022 for the national premiere of Lully’s baroque opera Armide, both for Teatro da Paz. Among his awards are the Shell Prize, Troféu Teatro Cesgranrio, Questão de Crítica, Zilka Salaberry and CBTIJ, as well as an honorary mention from the Rio de Janeiro Chamber of Deputies.
