Perhaps the most exciting project of the Israeli Opera is the Opera in the Community project. The Opera in the Community project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and local authorities, has been running for over a decade. As part of this unique activity, a professional team of the Israeli Opera, including directors, musical directors, soloists, musicians, designers, and more, joins the community and, together with local talents, puts on a full-scale operatic production centered on the community.
The team works with the community’s artistic forces for an extended period of three months, culminating in a festive performance to which the community is invited to watch the entire production, exclusively for community members. Over the years, the opera has visited dozens of localities: the Hatikva neighborhood in Tel Aviv, Ashkelon, Shekna Gilo in Jerusalem, Ramla, Netanya, Dimona, Ofakim, Acre, Nazareth, and more. During its activity in the community, the opera has staged the productions “The Magic Flute,” “Cinderella,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Carmen,” “The Book of Hope,” and “The Elixir of Love.”
