Israel Obel, subtitle translator, born in South Tel Aviv. He began his artistic activity in his youth as a literary consultant for the “Batsheva” troupe for the work “Ami-Yam, Ami-Yaar” , based on Hebrew poetry read by Hanna Maron to choreography by John Cranko. He is one of the first translators of subtitles for operas in the world. He has translated most of the Israeli opera productions since its founding, the Philharmonic Orchestra, and guest productions from abroad at various festivals in Israel.
In addition, he also translates many films for cinema, including all of Walt Disney’s films, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing (directed by Kenneth Branagh), Amadeus (directed by Milos Forman), Cyrano de Bergerac (directed by Jean-Paul Rapano), as well as many films by directors Woody Allen, François Truffaut, Federico Fellini, and more. He also lectures on operas at the Open University.
