Ratem Nir , conductor, was born in Israel. He is the head of the musical staff and house conductor of the Israeli Opera and assistant to the musical director of the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon Lezion and was assistant conductor of the Israel Chamber Orchestra. He has conducted the best Israeli orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon Lezion, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Israel Camerata Jerusalem, the Raanana Symphonie, the Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra, the 21st Century Ensemble and the Haifa Symphony Orchestra. He conducted the Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt in a production of the oratorio The Triumph of Time and Disillusionment (Handel). He participated in the Verbier Festival’s training program for young conductors, in which he worked with the Festival Orchestra and conductors Lahav Shani and Christoph Eschenbach. He recently led the summer conference of the National Youth Wind Orchestra. He won the “Golden Wand” conducting competitions (in collaboration with the Buchman Mehta School of Music and the Haifa Symphony Orchestra) and the “Conductor’s Incubator” of the Israeli Chamber Orchestra. He received his musical education at the Ness Ziona Conservatory, and graduated with honors from the Thelma Yellin National High School of the Arts. He served in the IDF as an outstanding musician as an arranger for string quartets, and at the same time studied conducting in the class of Yoav Talmi at the Buchman Mehta Higher School of Music and bassoon playing in the class of Daniel Mazaki. As part of his studies, he participated in master classes in conducting with conductors Osmo Waneska and Ivan Fischer. At the Israeli Opera, he conducted La Traviata (Verdi).
