Tenor Aaron Blake is internationally recognized for performances bearing “inexplicable aura and magnetism” (Le Monde) executed by his “endearing sweet sound – with youthful fervor and stamina” (The New York Times).
A Grammy-winning artist, Mr. Blake made his Metropolitan Opera debut in Verdi’s La traviata and has since appeared with the company in repertoire ranging from Offenbach and Mozart to Bizet and Glass. He earned particular acclaim as the High Priest of Amon in Akhnaten and most recently joined the company for their productions of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and Carmen.
A champion of contemporary music, he is most noted for creating the role of Timothy Laughlin in Fellow Travelers (Gregory Spears) and has performed works by Peter Eotvös, Mason Bates, Joby Talbot, Andrea Clearfield, and Nico Muhly, among others.
Michel in Martin’s Julietta has become one of Mr. Blake’s signature roles. The only living artist to have essayed this work in all of its translations, he first performed the role in its 2019 U.S. premiere at Carnegie Hall in Czech, followed by his debut at Oper Frankfurt in the German translation, and at Opéra Nice Côte d’Azur in the original French text of Georges Neveux. Most recently he reprised the role to critical acclaim at Bard for their 2025 festival, “Martinů and His World.”
In recent seasons he has appeared as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni with Cincinnati Opera; Nadir in The Pearl Fishers with Vancouver Opera; Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore with The Israeli Opera. Additionally he has appeared with Komische Oper Berlin, New York City Opera, Minnesota Opera, Utah Opera, The Dallas Opera, Santa Fe Opera, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Opera Orchestra of New York, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic.
A frequent guest of the Israeli Opera, Mr. Blake returns for their 40th anniversary season as both Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and as Narraboth in Richard Strauss’s Salome.
