Dar Ruth, set and costume designer

Ruth Dar, set and costume designer, was born in Israel. She has designed set and costumes for most of the theatre companies in Israel as well as for film and television. For 28 years she has been the set and costume designer in residence of the Cameri Theatre. Among her many works: Threepenny Opera, Mother Courage, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, The Cherry Orchard, The Seagull, Uncle Vania, Three Sisters, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It, A Comedy of Errors, Richard III, The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, A Servant of Two Masters, Ghosts, Nora, Angels in America, The House of Bernarda Alba, Democracy, Amadeus and others. She has also designed many Israeli plays including The 16th Lamb, The Rebels, Family Story as well as many plays by Hanoch Levin including The Torments of Job, The Great Whore from Babylon, The Suitcase Packers, The Whore from Ohio and many others. She also designed the musicals Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Les Miserable and King Solomon and the Cobbler Shalmai. Many of the productions she designed were presented at theatres and festivals all over the world. She received numerous awards for her work. At the Israeli Opera she designed L’Italiana in Algeri (Rossini) and A Journey to the End of the Millennium (Bardanashvili).
