Gregor Seyffert, choreographer, was born in Berlin and studied there at the State Ballet School. After completing his studies in 1987, he has been engaged immediately as soloist of the Tanztheater der Komischen Oper. There he danced for thirteen years, since 1991 as 1st soloist, and has danced the leading roles of classical and contemporary works, such as Romeo in Romeo & Juliet, Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, Woyzeck in Franz Woyzeck, the androgynous fairy Carabosse in Sleeping Beauty, the overexcited Alain in La Fille Mal Gardée (The Wayward Daughter), and the legendary Waslaw Nijinsky in the hit Clown Gottes, which was filmed as a co-production between Westdeutscher Rundfunk and Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg in 2002. In recognition of his absolute technical perfection and his unique realisation of character roles, he has earned numerous international honours and prizes, such as the Grand Prix de Lausanne gold medal in 1986, the 1st prize as best partner at the International Ballet Competition in Jackson/Mississippi in 1994, the 1st prize at the International Ballet Competition at Varna/Bulgaria in 1994 and the German Critics’ Prize for the section dance 2002. In 1996 Gregor Seyffert founded with his father Dietmar Seyffert GREGOR SEYFFERT & COMPAGNIE, which have been invited at the Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta/ USA as an official cultural contribution on the behalf of Germany in the same year. In 1997 Gregor Seyffert has been the first German dancer to be named the World’s Best Dancer of the Year when he received UNESCO’s Prix Benois De La Danse – the world of ballet’s highest honour. In 1999, Gregor Seyffert was conferred the title of Berlin’s Dance-Laureate. TV appearances and tours led Gregor Seyffert throughout Europe, Asia, and North and Central America. In acknowledgment of his extraordinary artistic achievements, Gregor Seyffert received 2003 the German Dance Prize. Since 2002/03, Dancer-Laureate Gregor Seyffert has supervised the faculty of stage dance at the State Ballet School, Berlin as its artistic director and have been the artistic director of the GREGOR SEYFFERT COMPAGNIE DESSAU | Anhaltisches Theater between 2004 and 2009. In this time he have been created several full-length dance pieces such as The little prince (2005), Marquis de Sade at Coal Power Station Vockerode (2006), Tango Palace (2007, Ko-production with the Kurt-Weill Festival of Dessau), Classic Dance Show (2007), Peri – Between Heaven and Earth (2008) and In 80 days around the world (2009). In the end of 2009 he has been created Menschensohn at Bühnen der Stadt Gera/Germany.
