    Titel Alexander, director

    Was born in Russia. Since 1991 he is the artistic director of the Stanislavsky Opera. Between 1980 and 1991 he was Chief Director of the Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) Opera and Ballet Theatre. Among the opera productions he directed for the Stanislavsky Opera are Ruslan and Ludmila (Glinka), The Tale of Tsar Saltan, The Golden Cockerel, May Night (Rimsky-Korsakov), Ernani, La traviata (Verdi), La bohème (Puccini), Carmen (Bizet), Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss), Cosi fan tutte (Mozart) and Yevgeny Onegin (Tchaikovsky). For other opera companies he directed Boris Godunov (Mussorgsky), Christmas Eve (Rimsky-Korsakov), Katerina Ismailova (Shostakovich), First Love (Taktakishvili), Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini), Nabucco (Verdi), Cavalleria rusticana (Mascagni), Pagliacci (Leoncavallo), Les Contes d'Hoffmann (Offenbach) and many others. He staged the world premiere productions of the operas The Prophet (Vladimir Kobekin), Antigone (Vasily Lobanov), The Gambler (first version, Sergei Prokofiev) and Hamlet (Vladimir Kobekin). He is a Professor at the music theatre department of the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS) where he partners a workshop with Igor Yasulovich. Mr. Titel’s productions appeared on festivals in Edinburgh, Kassel, Riga, Efes and Aspendos as well as on tours throughout the USA, South Korea and Germany.
