David McVicar, director, was born in Great Britain. He directs regularly at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, La Scala in Milan, the Vienna Staatsoper and the opera houses of Santa Fe, Madrid, San Francisco, Barcelona, Tokyo, Chicago, Brussels, Berlin, Paris, Salzburg, English National Opera, Opera North, Scottish Opera and many others. His numerous productions include Don Carlo, Macbeth, Falstaff, Il trovatore, Aida (Verdi), Death in Venice, Billy Budd, The Turn of the Screw, Gloriana (Britten), Andrea Chenier (Giordano), Les Troyens (Berlioz), Salome, Der Rosenkavalier (R. Strauss), Carmen (Bizet), La boheme, Tosca (Puccini), Tristan und Isolde, Der Ring des Nibelungen (Wagner), Rusalka (Dvorak), Agrippina, Alcina (Handel), Norma (Bellini), Maria Stuarda, Anna Bolena (Donizetti), Pelleas et Melisande (Debussy), The Rake’s Progress (Stravinsky) and many others.
