Gunthorpe Jonathan, baritone
Was born in England. He completed his studies at the National Opera Studio and made his Royal Opera début as Angelotti in Tosca (Puccini), returning as Nachtigall in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Wagner). His operatic repertoire also includes Pilgrim in Curlew River (Britten), The English Clerk in Death in Venice (Britten), Leporello in Don Giovanni (Mozart), Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte (Mozart), Alidoro in La Cenerentola (Rossini), Papageno in Die Zauberflote (Mozart), Sharpless in Madama Butterfly (Puccini) and many other roles in opera houses such as Welsh National Opera, English National Opera, La Scala, Milan, La Monnaie, Brussels, New York City Opera, Aldeburgh Opera, Opera de Rouen, English Touring Opera, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and other opera houses and festivals in Great Britain and all over Europe. His wide concert repertoire includes Messiah (Handel), the requiem and masses of Mozart and many other works including numerous contemporary compositions which he performs regularly in concerts in Great Britain, Germany, Norway, Australia, Finland and many other countries. His recitals and concerts are regularly broadcast on radio stations throughout Europe and he has also many recordings to his credit.
