Nir Rotem, conductor
Rotem Nir, conductor, was born in Israel. He is the Conductor in Residence and Head of Music at the Israeli Opera and the assistant to the music director at the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion. He was an assist conductor at the Israel Chamber Orchestra. He conducted most Israeli orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Israel Camerata Jerusalem, the Raanana Symphonette, the Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra, The 21st Century Ensemble and the Haifa Symphony Orchestra. He conducted Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno (Handel) with the Georgisches Kammerorchester in Ingolstadt. He participated in the young conductors program of the Verbier Festival where he worked with the festival orchestra and the conductors Lahav Shani and Christoph Eschenbach. He won she Golden Baton conducting competition of the Buchmann Mehta School of Music and the Haifa Symphony Orchestra and the New Conductors competition of the Israel Chamber Orchestra. He studied at the Nes Ziona Conservatory and at the Thelma Yellin High School for the Arts. He was a distinguished musician at the army and studied at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music conducting with Yoav Talmi and bassoon with Daniel Mazaki. He participated in masterclasses presented by Osmo Vanska and Ivan Fischer. At the Israeli Opera he conducted La traviata (Verdi).
