Was born in Romania. He has performed many Verdi roles, among which are the title roles in Rigoletto, Otello, Nabucco and Simon Boccanegra, Il Conte di Luna in Il trovatore, Miller in Luisa Miller, Amonasro in Aida and others. He has also performed Barnaba in La Gioconda (Ponchielli), Sharpless in Madama Butterfly (Puccini) and the title role in Andrea Chénier (Mascagni), at La Scala Milano, Arena di Verona, Vienna Staatsoper, Deutsche oper Berlin, Opera National de Paris, Lyric opera of Chicago, ROH Covent Garden in London and many others.
