Was born in Italy. He has conducted in the most important opera houses, among which are the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Teatro Massimo Bellini of Catania, Teatro Verdi of Sassari, Carlo Felice of Genova, Teatro Lirico of Cagliari, the opera houses of Washington and Bonn and others and the festivals of d’Avenches and Spoleto. He has conducted many opera productions, among which are Idomeneo, Cosi fan tutti, Don Giovanni (Mozart), Il barbiere di Siviglia, La Cenerentola (Rossini), Nabucco, Attila, Aida, Don Carlo, Un ballo in maschera (Verdi), L’elisir d’amore, Don Pasquale (Donizetti), Norma (Bellini), Manon Lescaut, La bohéme, Madama Butterfly, (Puccini), Turandot (both Puccini and Busoni), Parsifal (Wagner), Der Rosenkavalier, Elektra, Salome, Ariadne auf Naxos (R. Strauss), Wozzeck (Berg) and others.
