    Karl-Heinz Steffens, conductor


    Karl-Heinz Steffens, conductor, was born in Germany. He is the music director of the Den Norske Opera and Ballet in Oslo and of the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz in Ludwigshafen.

    His wide operatic repertoire includes Cosi fan tutte, Don Giovanni (Mozart), Fidelio (Beethoven), Pelleas et Melisande (Debussy), Tosca (Puccini), Ariadne auf Naxos (R. Strauss), Gotterdammerung (Wagner) and other operas which he conducted in the opera houses of Berlin, Zurich, Oslo as well as in La Scala in Milan.

    He is also conducting regularly with numerous international orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony, the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony, the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Maggio Musicalle Orchestra in Florence, as well as the orchestras of Lisbon, Turin, Monte Carlo, Dresden, Helsinki and many others.

    He began his musical career as a clarinetist and was the principal clarinet with both the Bavarian Radio and the Berlin Philharmonic orchestras.
