Ben-gur Akselrod Gan-ya, soprano
Gan-Yan Ben-Gur Akselrod, soprano, born in Israel. Her repertoire includes Tamiri in Semiramide, Almirena in Rinaldo (Handel), Servillia in La clemenza di Titto, Blonde and Konstanze in Die Entfhurung aus dem Serail, Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Despina in Cosi fan tutte (Mozart), Clorinda in La Cenerentola, Elvira in L’Italiana in Algeri (Rossini), Lucy in Die Dreigroshenoper, Jenny in Aufsteig und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny (Weill), Nanetta in Falstaff (Verdi), the leading role in Thais (Massenet), Marfa in The Tsar’s Bride (Rimsky-Korsakov), Teres in Les Mamelles de Tiresias (Poulenc), Madame Mao in Nixon in China (Adams), Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Offenbach), Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos (R. Strauss) and others. She performs in the opera houses of Vienna, Berlin, Stuttgart, Toulouse, Madrid, Freiburg, Oldenburg, Glyndebourne, Aix-en-Provance, Ravinia and others. She performs as a soloist in concerts with film composer Hans Zimmer. She was awarded the first prize in the Hilde Zadek Competition in Vienna, the Lys-Simonette and he third prize in the Lotte Lenya Competition in New York, the Israeli Composition Performance Award at the Aviv Competition as well as scholarships from the Kurt Weill Foundation, Ronen Foundation and the America-Israel Cultural Foundation. She is currently a professor for singing and modern music and the Graz University for Arts in Austria.
