Roussat Cecile and Lubek Julien, directors
Roussat Cecile and Lubek Julien, directors
Cecile Roussat and Julien Lubek met in 2000 while studying mime with Marcel Marceau. After graduating from his international mime school in Paris, they trained for several years in drama, acrobatics, puppet theatre, dance and illusion in various institutions including the Centre National des Arts du Cirque. Since 2004, they have been developing a unique theatrical identity through visual, poetical and multidisciplinary shows. In 2008, they founded Le Shlemil Theatre, whose unclassifiable original productions have been widely acclaimed by audiences and critics all over the world. Among others, their magical and burlesque duet, Les Ames Nocturnes, was performed over 150 times in Europe and in Asia and awarded the Arte/Scad prize in the Avignon Festival in 2012. Their fantastical adaptation of Beauty and the Beast in which Mozart and Haydn instrumental pieces meet an otherworldly visual atmosphere also travelled across the world to great success. Meanwhile a growing number of renowned conductors have sought their collaboration as stage directors for musical productions. They have directed Die Zauberflote (Mozart), Dido & Aeneas (Purcell) and La Cenerentola (Rossini) for opera houses in Belgium and France.
At the Israeli Opera they directed:
Dido and Aeneas (2018)
La Cenerentola (2016)
