    Haim Permont, composer

    Haim Permont, composer, was born in Lithuania and immigrated to Israel when he was six years old. He is a graduate of the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem, Israel and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA. He studied composition with Mark Kopytman in Israel and with Richard Wernick and George Crumb in the USA. His numerous compositions include symphonic, chamber, vocal music for choirs and for children choirs, concerti, operas, music for theatre, film and multi media works. His music is premiered and performed by orchestras, ensembles, choris and musicians in Israel and all over Europe, the USA, Australia, South America and the Far East. He is a professor of composition at the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem. He has received many prizes and awards including three Akum awards, the Rosenblum Prize, the Margalit Prize and the Prime Minister Composers' Award. Among his numerous works are A Song to Israel, Ghosts for flute quartet, Nabucco Blues, concerto for oboe and orchestra, Elegy for piano and orchestra, rhapsody for symphonic orchestra and the children opera the Pied Piper of Hamelin. In 2000 he wrote the opera Dear Son of Mine which was performed by the Israeli Opera.
