Vassily Gerello, baritone
was born in the Ukraine. His wide repertoire includes Germont in La traviata (Verdi), Valentin in Faust (Gounod), Yeletsky in Pique Dame, Robert in Iolanta (Tchaikovsky), Napoleon in War and Peace (Prokofiev), Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana (Leoncavallo), Tomsky in Pique Dame (Tchaikovsky), Ferdinand in Betrothal in a Monastery (Prokofiev), Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Marcello in La boheme (Puccini), Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini), the title role in Yevgeni Onegin (Tchaikovsky), Tonio in Pagliacci (Leoncavallo), Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor (Donizetti), Miller in Luisa Miller, Luna in Il trovatore, Renato in un ballo in maschera, the title role in Macbeth, Ford in Falstaff (Verdi) and many others. He began his career as a member of the Kirov Opera and since then sings regularly at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Vienna Staatsoper, Amsterdam, Munich, Toronto, Houston, Paris, Lyon, Dallas, Berlin, Hamburg, Washington, Madrid, Los Angeles, Brussels. At the Israeli Opera he performed Posa in Don Carlo (Verdi) as well as Yeletsky in Pique Dame (Tchaikovsky) and Ford in Falstaff (Verdi) with the Kirov Opera.
