Was born in the USA. She has designed lighting for opera companies throughout the USA, among which are San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Los Angeles Opera, New York City Opera, Seattle Opera, Washington Opera – where she has been resident lighting designer since 1985 and has designed more than 100 productions – and others. Her work in Europe includes Turandot (Puccini) in Seville, Les Dialogues des Carmélites (Poulenc) in Geneva and The Medium and The Telephone (Menotti) at the Spoleto Festival, directed by the composer.
