Roubaud Charles, director

Charles Roubaud, director, was born in France. He studied graphic arts and had an initial professional experience orientated towards publicity drawing and posters. He began his directing career with in 1986 in Marseilles with Don Quichotte (Massenet). Since then he has directed numerous opera productions in all French opera houses and abroad including Avignon, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Metz, Liège, San Francisco Opera, Washington, Seville, Orange, the Arena di Verona, the Mariinsky in St. Petersburg, Monte Carlo, Parma, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and many others. He has directed many operas including La Cenerentola (Rossini), Dialogues des Carmélites (Poulenc), Pelléas et Mélisande (Debussy), Manon (Massenet), Lucia di Lammermoor (Donizetti), I Puritani (Bellini), Katia Kabanova (Janacek), Die Frau ohne Schatten (R. Strauss), Don Giovanni (Mozart), Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Mozart), Salome, Elektra (R. Strauss). Aida (Verdi), Turandot (Puccini), Norma (Bellini), Don Carlos, Il trovatore, Nabucco, Rigoletto (Verdi), Prince Igor (Borodin), Der Ring des Nibelungen (Wagner), Samson et Dalila (Saint-Saens), Ariadne auf Naxos (R. Strauss), Lakmé (Delibes), Carmen (Bizet) and many other operas. This is his Israeli Opera debut.
