Fourny Paul-Emile, director

Paul-Emile Fourny, director, was born in Belgium. He worked as a teacher, an actor, a stage director, a company manager and as official of a Belgian cultural centre. In 1985 he joined Gérard Mortier’s team at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. He was the general director of the Nice Opera. He has directed productions for the opera houses of Avignon, Orange, Nice, Prague, New York City Opera, Trieste, Hong Kong, Liege, Malaga, Buenos Aires and many other opera houses in France, Spain and other countries. His operatic repertoire includes La Vida Breve (De Falla), Oedipus Rex (Stravinsky), Rigoletto (Verdi), Ariane et Barbe-Bleue (Dukas), Don Giovanni (Mozart), Andrea Chenier (Giordano), Lucia die Lammermoor (Donizetti), Romeo et Juliette (Gounod), Carmen (Bizet), Turandot (Puccini), Werther (Massenet), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Britten), Mireille (Gounod), Cosi fan tutte (Mozart) and many other productions.
