Born in Austria, he was a member of the Vienna Boys’ Choir as a child and later studied with his father, the famous singer Otto Edelmann. His extensive operatic repertoire includes roles as diverse as Papageno in The Magic Flute (Mozart), Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Brittany), Malatesta in Don Pasquale (Donizetti), Valentin in Faust (Gono), Silvio in Pellazzi (Leonquello), Ben in Telephone (Menotti), Guglielmo in So they all do (Mozart), Count Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro (Mozart), Ping in Turandot (Puccini), Figaro inThe Book of Seville (Rossini), Dandini in La Cenerentola (Rossini), Flacco in Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss), the title role in Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky) and more. He has appeared in the opera houses of Berlin, Madrid, Cologne, Frankfurt, San Diego, Brussels, and at the Volksoper and the Vienna State Opera. He also regularly appears in concerts and recitals at the world’s leading festivals and sings with the most important orchestras. Among his many recordings is a CD of duets with his brother, the baritone singer Peter Edelman.
