Zvulun Tomer, director

Tomer Zvulun was born in Israel. He is the general and artistic director of the Atlanta Opera since 2013. His work has been presented by prestigious opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the opera companies of Seattle, San Diego, Minnesota, Boston, Cleveland, Dallas, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Buenos Aires, Wexford, New Orleans and Wolf Trap, as well as leading educational institutes and universities such as the Juilliard School, Indiana University, Boston University, and IVAI in Tel Aviv.  His debut in New York was in a new production L'heure Espagnole (Ravel) and Gianni Schicchi (Puccini) at Juilliard Opera Center. Recently he created critically acclaimed new productions of Semele (Handel) in  Seattle, Lucia di Lammermoor (Donizetti) in Seattle, Atlanta and Cleveland, Silent Night (Kevin Puts) in Wexford and Atlanta, Soldier Songs (David T. Little) in Atlanta and San Diego, Dead Man Walking (Heggie) in New Orleans, La boheme (Puccini) in Seattle, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Atlanta,  Lucrezia Borgia (Donizetti) in Buenos Aires, Die Zauberflote (Mozart) in Cincinnati, Atlanta and Indiana University, Don Giovanni (Mozart) in Wolf Trap and Cincinnati, Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss) in Dallas and Kansas City, Falstaff (Verdi) in Wolf Trap and Des Moines, Rigoletto (Verdi) in Boston, Atlanta and Omaha, Madama Butterfly (Puccini) in Atlanta, Castleton, and New Orleans and Tosca (Puccini) in Panama and Atlanta.
During his seven years at the Metropolitan Opera, he has directed revivals of Tosca (Puccini) and Carmen (Bizet), and worked on a number of new productions, most notably La rondine (Puccini), La traviata (Verdi), La Fille du Regiment (Donizetti), Iphigenie en Tauride (Gluck) and Manon (Massenet). Some of his upcoming projects include the world premiere of Dinner at Eight (Bolcom) in Minnesota followed by the European premiere of this new opera in Wexford, Silent Night (Kevin Puts) in Glimmerglass and Washington, new productions of Maria de Buenos Aires (Piazzolla) and Die fliegende Hollander (Wagner) in Atlanta, a new Yevgeni Onegin (Tchaikovsky) for Kansas City and a revival of his acclaimed production of La boheme (Puccini) in Dallas.
