Only a Few Performances Left Donizetti's La Fille du Regiment Brings Smiles to Israeli Opera Audiences
She runs and jumps all over the stage. She walks on tables and is lifted on sofas, she bubbles with coloratura delights and she sings very poignant mellow tunes – this is Marie, the daughter of the regiment, in Donizetti's French delight of an opera which is now performed for the first time in Israel. Costa Rica born Iride Martinez and Israeli Hila Baggio share the title role in this Israeli Opera production and you should really come and watch and hear both of them on alternate nights, to savor the magic of the piece and charm of the role. Marie is aided by Tonio, here performed by tenors Robert McPherson from the USA and Caner Akin from Turkey who have no problems singing those everlasting high Cs. And so both Marie and Tonio get to enjoy their love on the stage and the audience gets his share of coloratura bel canto delight in an opera which always smiles at you. Last performance is this Saturday – so hurry and order your tickets now, before you miss a real fun production!
La Fille du Regiment until February 19 at the Opera House of the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center
